Is it me...?

So I’m here on a Saturday night at home grading these tests, “Unit Assessments” of my 3rd period World History class.  This is not your typical 50 question multiple choice, but instead my Master Teacher and I thought it would be good to test/assess the students’ knowledge of the Industrial Revolution by creating a newspaper editorial.  This allows them to communicate their knowledge through writing and not just selecting an answer.

Let me cut to the chase. I’m pretty disappointed in their responses and I’m quite sure that they know more about the concepts than what they had wrote.  I graded their articles firmly and the class average will probably be around a D+. Now I sit here with the dilemma whether or not they deserve that low of a grade and if my expectations are too high. I feel like in a lot of areas of my life I hold high, but realistic standards. Sadly I don’t know for sure and I THINK they are realistic. Then I am questioning myself…is the class average for this assessment a D+ because of them or because of me….

Lord give me wisdom!!!!

Priests minister from the people to the Lord, while prophets minister from the Lord to the people. Men need to be able to function in both roles as God directs them.

as i lie here...

great job irving, you make me proud.

milesmilitis:

Tonight, as I was packing up all my belongings to move to Irvine, I came face to face with a subtle reminder about the importance of this coming year! So, like I said, I was collecting a hodgepodge of things to bring with me to irvine. For just a quick illustration, I’m going to list out a few things of what I brought; I brought two cartons of organic soymilk, a bag of half eaten multi-grain cheerios, a vase with a freshly cut plant on the side, a comforter, a down blanket, 3 pairs of shoes, a dirty hamper, a large dufflebag filled with clean and semi-clean clothes, my Nintendo DS, a trash bin, a bottle of 100% Aloe gel, a letter from my CCV, my ESV study bible and a harry potter book I checked out from the San Dimas Public Library… the 4th one. An entire collection of very essential things that make my life more enjoyable, and that makes me… well, me. I took a good long look at all the things that I had organized, packed, and even concealed, and I couldn’t help but compare all these, I guess some could even say, “random” personal possessions, to our new and continuing Miles Militis Homegroup. Just take a little gander at us; we are so different. SO different. Some of us just recently graduated, a reasonable good lot of us still go to UCI, and even a few that don’t attend UCI, but here we are as one body; we are united and working together for four simple goals that rhyme: to put God as our soule desire, to fight on with holy fire, to move our hearts as one, and to lead the lost to the Son. These hopes that our previous leaders dreamed and put into action for us are all in motion, and its our turn to do the same. Though it may seem as if some of us are like the fresh unopened carton of soymilk, or the bottle of 100% aloe gel, OR even the half worn pair of boxers, and might seem not to go well with one another individually, the ultimate product is what matters the most; to make the owner pleased. That’s our job. It’s to please God and everything that falls underneath the meaning of pleasing Him. That’s why we are all here in Irvine at this very moment in time, with this group of people; it’s for that very reason. So yeah, I was totally reminded of this verse in Isaiah that really gave me peace over this coming year. I hope you guys read it, meditate on it, and truly believe this promise that God has given us. Okay, its time for me to go to bed. William Bear Ma KO’d on my roommate’s bed. I should go cover him with a blanket. Goodnight.

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…”

Jehovah Jireh

So my days of student teaching have begun this week and through and through from applying to the credential program, to registering classes, to finding a fieldwork placement God has been my rock and provider.  His faithfulness so quickly forgotten, floods overwhelmingly into my soul again as I see Him deliver me. Even though Kevin and I were in the same program, he was told that he was going to be at Rowland months ago, I on the other hand finally have a confirmed placement at Walnut. :) Thank you Jesus!

There’s so much about my education, deadlines, my future, my career, that I have said and I guess every college student/graduate will say at one point “I’m not sure what’s going to happen.” The truth of the matter is, we are never wise enough to know or powerful enough to ensure that tomorrow will be all that it was expected to be.

So this goes out to all of those that are searching themselves and the world to see where “the road” takes them next. For the recent college graduates seeking direction or young adults looking for employment, God is in control. You can and will very well experience this yourself. Stay faithful to what you’re given, for he who is faithful in little will be faithful in much. Most importantly testify that it is the LORD’s grace upon you.
